How to Compare Different Types of Entry Doors

Your entry door is the entrance to your own private domain. Given how important doors are for security, first impressions, energy efficiency, and various other things, it’s smart to slow down to ensure that you’re making the right choice when selecting a door. There are a variety of options, but we’re going to focus on two of the most common and versatile: fiberglass and steel.

Fiberglass is a popular option because it can be made to resemble wood, which offers a luxurious appearance. A foam-filled fiberglass entry door is also very efficient energy-wise. You might think that fiberglass doors perform poorly in regard to security. Yet while there are more secure doors out there, these doors are actually quite tough. Upfront and maintenance costs are generally quite affordable too. Given all this, it’s no surprise that fiberglass doors are one of the most popular options.

Steel doors are another great choice. Steel doors can offer either a smooth finish, or a grainy finish that can imitate wood. By filling steel doors with foam, you can make them quite energy efficient. Steel doors typically offer better security than fiberglass doors. Still, while steel doors are affordable upfront, they do require a bit more maintenance because rust can be an issue. As you can see, both entry door options are good, although one or the other might work better for you.
